High-speed rail – 18 February to 19 August

A scientific, technical and human adventure, high-speed rail, born in Japan in the 1960s, is still on the go. France has distinguished itself in this field since the 1980s and still holds the world rail speed record of 574.8km/hr set by a TGV in 2007.

Through models, interactive games, a driving simulator, and videos, come and discover the world of high-speed rail in Paris.

Following an introduction outlining key reference points in order to understand the stakes at play, the exhibition shows in detail the main technical challenges rail professionals face: routes and their construction; laying the tracks and maintaining them; the equipment and power supply for trains… all will be revealed!

Co-produced by Universcience and presented for the first time in 2017 at Espace des sciences de Rennes, the exhibition also features three installations inspired by the world of rail: La motrice, a monumental work by Jean-Michel Caillebotte; Le vitrier contrarié, a 3D projection by Pierrick Sorin; and Cosmos Express, an immersive experience by Loanic Lemercier.
